Yukata and fireworks

During the festival season, the Japanese ladies (and girls), often dress in a yukata. The yukata is a summer version of the kimono. The material is lighter and there is only one layer, whereas you were various undergarments under a kimono.

We invited some friends and colleagues to come over and watch the fireworks from our balcony. We get take out sushi from the 100 yen sushi restaurant, delicious and easy. Everybody brings something to eat, and before you know it there's enough food on the table to feed an army.

Yuko-san has lent me one of her yukatas. It might be a simple version of the kimono, getting dressed is not easy. Lending me the yukata included dressing me up, which was a good thing, I wouldn't have done the yukata justice, if I would have to get dressed myself..

The upper body has to get the shape of a cilinder. The chest should look flat - that's no problem. The stomach has to follow in a smooth line - for this we needed some help from a folded towel!
The obi (a kind of cumberband) was folded in a special way.

After the firework we went to the Crazy Horse cafe, because the yukata had to be shown of course. The walk to the Crazy Horse took quite a bit longer than usual, you can only take small steps when you wear a yukata. Hiking the yukata up to be able to walk faster is no option....
