Port festival and drago race

It's festival time, two weekends in a row can half of the Nagasaki population be found in Seaside Park. First there's the harbor festival, with music and dance performances. You could register via internet, for a free boat trip on an old (restored) boat. Together with Thomas, a colleague, we were the lucky ones to win the trip. On a beautiful boat we were taken for a one hour trip around Nagasaki harbor.

At night there was a parade with floats, each representing an important person from Nagasaki's history.  We didn't know half of the people on the floats, but it was impressive to watch.

The Dragon Boat Races were also impressive. With around twenty people in a big canoe, guided by drums, rowing as fast as you can, a 1100 meter circuit. The photo doesn't do the rowers justice, check out
the movie. Of course there's the traditional fireworks to end the festival.
