Harley Davidson weekend
12 Nov 2005
The weekend of 11 and 12 November was dedicated to the Harley Davidson bikes. Tough guys in leather, rode their bikes to Nagasaki to join the fun.

We did expect tough guys in leather jackets. That we would see lap dogs in Harley jackets was quite a surprise...

During this weekend, the 2006 models were presented. Not, as you often see, behind ropes, so you can only look at the bikes from a distance. No, they do things differently here, when you can, you are allowed to climb on the bikes as well. Everybody can be king of the road for a while. Or you can test whethr the midlife crisis has hit yet...looking good Carlos!

In Nagasaki they feel that Harley Davidsons go well together with country & western music, and it works! There were several live bands and there was even line dancing going on. Of course there were stalls where you could buy anything remotely linked to Harley Davidson. You could also find country & western accessories.

There was also a performance of two geishas. They were brought to the stage, while traditional Japanese music was played. With a lot of difficulty they finally got on the stage, look at the shoes they are walking on. You can not walk comfortably on them, that was easy to see. The performance consisted of each of them reading something from a piece of paper. Of course we don't know what was said, but it was appreciated, a lot of applauding when they were finished. When they left the stage, the traditional Japanese music was played again, but it sounded to familiar, do I really hear what I think I am hearing..... yes, it is true, they are playing John Denver's "Country Road" .
