Sakata
20 Jan 2008
A few colleagues moved from Aizu-Wakamatsu to Sakata. There is even less to do in Sakata than there is in Aizu-Wakamatsu, but still, enough to keep you occupied for a weekend. Enno has made some preparations, so we have our own personal guide.

He shows us Sankyo Store Houses, where you can see how rice is processed. http://www.city.sakata.yamagata.jp/sakata_tmp/e/meisyo/sankyo_e.html

The Soumaru is originally a famous restaurant. It has been renovated and is now a museum. You can see meiko dances, but that’s only once a day, and when you don’t understand the information correctly, you arrive too late… like we did. Still, the museum is well worth a visit. http://www.city.sakata.yamagata.jp/sakata_tmp/e/shisetu/souma_e.html

The weather is horrible, but we refuse to let it bother us. Together with Huib and Tomomi we go on the Mogami River Cruise. Nobody else got the same idea, so we have to boat to ourselves. Lunch was included, and we even get a performance of a real local song.
